So as of this moment, I have five published articles on AC. I have submitted them all for upfront payment (and I’ve had one article rejected, which I was able to tweak and publish on Suite) and the amount of money I’ve earned has increased for each article. For example, the first one got me $5.50 and my most recent one earned me $7.75. This may not seem like a lot, but keep in mind that I wrote about topics that I know about which means there was no real research involved. On average, these articles took me approximately 30 minutes each to write. Here’s my Pros & Cons evaluation:

Associated Content:

PROS-

  • I really like the upfront payment option. It’s a great (and honest) way to make money fast.
  • I like the ability to write about whatever I want.
  • There are no minimum content contributions.
  • I can decide whether to grant AC exclusive rights to my content or not.

CONS-

  • Their page view payments are low. However, if you choose the “submit for upfront payment review” option, you get money fast.
  • Their reputation is not the best.
  • They reject content often for unclear reasons.

Overall, I like the ability to make fast money, while still having control of what rights I give over to AC.

I’m pretty impressed that this one got accepted and purchased so quickly from AC. I only submitted it yesterday. I did get the same generic response as last time, so I assume they have standard blurbs that they send you regarding your article. That’s fine with me, so long as I’m getting paid!

Evergreen topics are topics that are consistent in popularity and are not trend-specific or news-related. In other words, they are topics that have an indefinite shelf life in terms of page views. My M.O. is to keep a majority of my articles evergreen, I’d say about 75%. The rest are on topics like newly released books that will probably have a limited amount of interest. The way that I see it (and this is my newbie opinion, by no means Gospel) with trendy topics you may initially get a lot of page hits, but they are very temporary and the views will quickly wain. On the other hand, with evergreen topics, they seem to show a consistent amount of views over a longer period of time.

Oddly (or maybe not depending on cynical you are), content sites seem to promote the stories pertaining to the current news items and trends the most. Could this be because they know that while the initial payout may be pleasing to the writer, in the long run the article will likely fizzle and collect dust somewhere out in web-world?

AC just bought and published another article. This time, it’s all about babymoons. If you are curious, here is the link. Feel free to give it a rating (be honest!).

I’m not sure how generic their feedback is, but they did say the following about my article, “This content is very well written and informative. Be sure to promote it!” (duh, about the “promoting” part.)

After submitting several articles for non-exclusive content, AC finally accepted one of my articles for exclusive content. I originally was going to submit it to Helium’s Marketplace, but I’ve made the decision to no longer contribute content to them. After my earnings for almost 4 months and approximately 15 articles is less than $2!! Live and learn. AC didn’t offer me anything substantial BUT $5.50 beats the $1.72 from Helium hands down.

For anyone who may be interested, here’s my link. And if you currently write at AC, let me know. You can share some basics with me and we can “friend” each other (or whatever the term on AC is?).
