As most of you have noticed, I haven’t been spending much time on here over the past few months. The easiest explaination is because life has gotten in the way and caused me to rearrange the things I can juggle with the free time I have available. In plain English, my husband and I are expanding our family and that has taken a toll on my blogging and writing. I am hoping to reconcile all of my commitments as time goes on, and will keep you posted. Thank you for your loyalty, patience and understand. Happy writing!
Here’s the catch: If you are a full-time college student who maintains a blog you can and should apply for this blogging scholarship. Unfortunately I can’t because 1) I am not currently enrolled (I won’t start classes until Jan ‘09) and 2) I am not a full-time student (though I am considering it since I want to graduate before I turn 35!).
Let me know if you apply so I can live vicariously through you. And hurry because the deadline is October 30, 2008
Good luck all you blogging college students!
I’ve spent this week touching base with various PR people trying to gather some research info for some upcoming Suite articles that I am working on. I landed two interviews: one with an author who happens to be quite the expert of the topic I am writing about and the other is the VP of the digital media branch of a VERY popular book store. Won’t give too many details away yet until the articles and interviews are complete. But I am excited. I also have two other interviews lined up in the upcoming weeks re: articles for Suite. I really am enjoying this whole interview process. From coming up with the questions, to getting to pick the brains of writers, authors and people in the publishing biz. I’ll keep you posted as plans progress.
Anyone have any interesting writing projects happening?
It’s weird how drawn I am to reading the work of David Foster Wallace after learning of his suicide. His essays are especially fascinating to me. He had this amazing ability to take a topic, for instance the 2000 campaign of John McCain (for Rolling Stone magazine) and turn it into an equally journalistic and literary piece of writing. I have always admired and wanted to write along those same lines. All throughout school, for my creative writing classes, I’ve favored non-fiction writing where I take a topic that generally everyone could relate to (cancer, adultery, the OK city bombings, the broad way play RENT, the beach, the train etc) and incorporated both a journalistic slant as well as my own experience into the mix. I feel that this kind of writing makes the realities of life seem more personal and intimate. Anyway, DFW really was amazing at what he did. He is definitely a writer whose essays I would have enjoyed had someone introduced them to me earlier, in a less somber circumstance.
Is there a writer that you’ve discovered that you are so blown away by that you wish you had been introduced to earlier?
